How-to guide

How to repost YouTube Shorts to TikTok

Your Shorts can find new fans on TikTok. The video is already the right shape. The words just need a TikTok makeover.

Here is how to do it by hand, and how Dandelion can help.

Do it by hand

Here is every step to share one post from YouTube to TikTok yourself.

  1. Step 1: Find your clean file

Use the first file from your phone or your editing app. If you lost it, you can download your own videos from YouTube Studio on a computer.

  2. Step 2: Check the shape

TikTok works best with tall 9:16 videos. Most Shorts already fit.

  3. Step 3: Check the sound

A song you added inside YouTube may not be OK to use on TikTok. Add a sound inside TikTok instead if you need one.

  4. Step 4: Upload it

Open TikTok. Tap the plus (+) button, tap Upload, and pick your video.

  5. Step 5: Turn your title into a caption

Your YouTube title is a good start. Put the words people search for in the first 100 characters of your TikTok caption. Keep it short and friendly.

  6. Step 6: Add a few hashtags

Add 3 to 5 hashtags about the topic at the end.

  7. Step 7: Post it

Pick who can see it and who can comment. Then tap Post.

Good to know

  • Do not just paste your YouTube description. TikTok captions should be short.
  • Keep a folder of your clean files so you never have to hunt for them.

Or let Dandelion do it

Doing it by hand works, but it takes time for every post. Dandelion can do it for you. Set it up once, and each new post is handled like this.

  1. Step 1: Add your YouTube channel

Dandelion sees each new Short and reads its title and cover. It never downloads YouTube videos, so it asks you to upload the video file. You only upload it once.

  2. Step 2: Pick where it goes

Turn on Autoshare from YouTube to TikTok. You set this up one time. After that, each new post gets the same care.

  3. Step 3: Dandelion makes the TikTok

It fits the video to 9:16. It turns your title into a short TikTok caption with search words up front and a few hashtags, in your voice.

  4. Step 4: It checks every post

Before anything goes out, it checks the shape, the length, and the sound. If it sees another app's logo, it stops and asks you for the clean file.

  5. Step 5: It picks a good time

Each app gets its own good time to post. Posts on the same app stay at least 1 hour apart. After about 30 posts on an app, it uses the times that work best for you.

  6. Step 6: Say yes, or let it post

New posts wait in Needs your OK until you say yes. On paid plans, you can turn on autopilot. Each autopilot post waits at least 15 minutes, so you can still stop it.
