Threads is made for talking. Your Instagram post can start a chat there too.

Just don't paste the same caption. Give it a Threads voice. Here is how.

Do it by hand

Here is every step to share one post from Instagram to Threads yourself.

  1. Step 1: Save your photo or video

Use the first file from your camera roll. It is the cleanest copy.

  2. Step 2: Start a new post

Open Threads and start a new thread. Tap the photo button to add your photo or video.

  3. Step 3: Check the shape

Photos look good in the 4:5 shape. Videos look good tall, in the 9:16 shape. Videos can be up to 5 minutes long.

  4. Step 4: Write a new post

Keep it chatty, like texting a friend. Share one thought or a short story. You get up to 500 characters.

  5. Step 5: Ask a question

End with a question so people want to reply.

  6. Step 6: Add one topic tag

Threads lets you add one topic tag to a post. Pick the one that fits best.

  7. Step 7: Post it

Read it one more time, then tap Post.

Good to know

  • Threads is about talking. Reply to the people who answer you.
  • A short story about how you made the post works well here.

Or let Dandelion do it

Doing it by hand works, but it takes time for every post. Dandelion can do it for you. Set it up once, and each new post is handled like this.

  1. Step 1: Connect your Instagram

Sign in to Instagram from Dandelion. It checks for your new posts every 30 to 60 minutes. You can also upload a post yourself.

  2. Step 2: Pick where it goes

Turn on Autoshare from Instagram to Threads. You set this up one time. After that, each new post gets the same care.

  3. Step 3: Dandelion makes the Threads post

It fits photos to 4:5 and videos to 9:16. It writes a short, chatty post that ends with a question, in your voice. It puts one topic tag in the tag spot.

  4. Step 4: It checks every post

Before anything goes out, it checks the shape, the length, and the words. If something is off, it fixes it or asks you first.

  5. Step 5: It picks a good time

Each app gets its own good time to post. Posts on the same app stay at least 1 hour apart. After about 30 posts on an app, it uses the times that work best for you.

  6. Step 6: Say yes, or let it post

New posts wait in Needs your OK until you say yes. On paid plans, you can turn on autopilot. Each autopilot post waits at least 15 minutes, so you can still stop it.
