How to repost TikToks to YouTube Shorts

You already made the video. Putting it on YouTube Shorts too means more people can find it.

A good repost is more than copy and paste. Here is how to do it by hand, step by step. Then see how Dandelion can do it for you.

Do it by hand

Here is every step to share one post from TikTok to YouTube yourself.

  1. Step 1: Get the clean file

Use the video file you made before you posted it. Look in your phone's camera roll or your editing app. If you tap Save video inside TikTok, that copy has the TikTok logo on it, so try not to use it.

  2. Step 2: Check the length

YouTube Shorts can be up to 3 minutes long. If your TikTok is longer, cut it down first.

  3. Step 3: Check the shape

Shorts look best as tall videos, in the 9:16 shape. Most TikToks are already this shape, so you can leave it as it is.

  4. Step 4: Check the sound

A song you picked inside TikTok may not be OK to use on YouTube. YouTube can block Shorts over 1 minute long that get a music copyright claim. Use your own sound, or keep the video to 1 minute.

  5. Step 5: Upload it

Open the YouTube app. Tap the plus (+) button, then pick your video from your phone.

  6. Step 6: Write a new title

You get up to 100 characters. Shorter is better. Aim for about 60, with the words people search for first.

  7. Step 7: Add a short description

Write one or two lines that say what the video is about. Then add 2 or 3 hashtags about the topic.

  8. Step 8: Post it, then do it again

Tap Upload. Then repeat every step for your next TikTok, and the one after that.

Good to know

  • Try not to post the same video twice on one channel.
  • Your TikTok caption is not a good YouTube title. People search on YouTube, so use the words they would type.
  • Keep a folder of your clean files. It makes reposting much faster.

Or let Dandelion do it

Doing it by hand works, but it takes time for every post. Dandelion can do it for you. Set it up once, and each new post is handled like this.

  1. Step 1: Add your TikTok

Paste your TikTok profile and say it is your own. Dandelion checks it for new videos about every hour. You can also upload a video yourself.

  2. Step 2: Pick where it goes

Turn on Autoshare from TikTok to YouTube. You set this up one time. After that, each new post gets the same care.

  3. Step 3: Dandelion makes the Short

It gets a copy without the TikTok logo and fits it to 9:16. It writes a new title of about 60 characters with the key words first, plus a description and tags. All in your voice.

  4. Step 4: It checks every post

It checks the shape, the length, and the sound. If a song may belong to someone else, it tells you before the Short goes out. If it sees another app's logo, it stops and asks you for the clean file.

  5. Step 5: It picks a good time

Each app gets its own good time to post. Posts on the same app stay at least 1 hour apart. After about 30 posts on an app, it uses the times that work best for you.

  6. Step 6: Say yes, or let it post

New posts wait in Needs your OK until you say yes. On paid plans, you can turn on autopilot. Each autopilot post waits at least 15 minutes, so you can still stop it.
