How to repost Instagram Reels to TikTok

If you already make Reels, you have a stack of videos ready for TikTok.

The video can stay the same. The words should change. Here is how to do it by hand, and how Dandelion can do it for you.

Do it by hand

Here is every step to share one post from Instagram to TikTok yourself.

  1. Step 1: Get the clean file

Use the first file from your camera roll or your editing app. It is the cleanest copy, with no other app's logo on it.

  2. Step 2: Check the shape

TikTok works best with tall 9:16 videos. That is the same shape as a Reel, so it should already fit.

  3. Step 3: Upload it

Open TikTok. Tap the plus (+) button, tap Upload, and pick your video.

  4. Step 4: Check the sound

If you added a song inside Instagram, it is not in your first file. Add a sound inside TikTok if you want one.

  5. Step 5: Write a new caption

Put the words people search for in the first 100 characters. Only that much shows at first. Keep it short, well under 2,200 characters.

  6. Step 6: Add a few hashtags

Add 3 to 5 hashtags about the topic at the end.

  7. Step 7: Post it

Pick who can see it and who can comment. Then tap Post.

Good to know

  • TikTok captions work best when they are short and curious, like talking to a friend.
  • Try not to post the same video twice on one account.

Or let Dandelion do it

Doing it by hand works, but it takes time for every post. Dandelion can do it for you. Set it up once, and each new post is handled like this.

  1. Step 1: Connect your Instagram

Sign in to Instagram from Dandelion. It checks for your new posts every 30 to 60 minutes. You can also upload a post yourself.

  2. Step 2: Pick where it goes

Turn on Autoshare from Instagram to TikTok. You set this up one time. After that, each new post gets the same care.

  3. Step 3: Dandelion makes the TikTok

It fits the video to 9:16. It writes a short TikTok caption with search words up front and a few hashtags at the end, in your voice. You pick your TikTok settings, like who can see it, one time.

  4. Step 4: It checks every post

Before anything goes out, it checks the shape, the length, and the sound. If it sees another app's logo, it stops and asks you for the clean file.

  5. Step 5: It picks a good time

Each app gets its own good time to post. Posts on the same app stay at least 1 hour apart. After about 30 posts on an app, it uses the times that work best for you.

  6. Step 6: Say yes, or let it post

New posts wait in Needs your OK until you say yes. On paid plans, you can turn on autopilot. Each autopilot post waits at least 15 minutes, so you can still stop it.
